Schluter-DITRA-HEAT-E-HK heating cables are twisted pairs designed to integrate with the DITRA-HEAT uncoupling membrane and heat interior floors. Important guidance for selection and installation: - Do not use cable to cover the entire tiled surface: this is generally unnecessary. - Very important: NEVER CUT OR MODIFY the cable. Any alteration changes its resistance, may damage it, and can cause overheating. - It is possible to lay the cable using alternating spacing of three then two studs in certain areas or across the whole floor to increase output (e.g., over an uninsulated subfloor or concrete) or to use a longer cable when three-stud spacing prevents meeting minimum clearances from walls and partitions. - Four-stud spacing is not recommended because it can cause uneven heating. - Observe the following minimum clearances: walls, partitions and fixed cabinets 2" (50 mm); heat sources (electric baseboards, fireplaces, forced-air heating systems, etc.) 8" (200 mm); floor drains and forced-air ducts 4" (100 mm); centerline of toilet drains 7" (180 mm). - NEVER install cable under vanity cabinets with no airflow, under bathtub platforms or freestanding tubs with no airflow, or inside cabinets, islands, small storage spaces or closets where the floor covering continues: these confined areas can cause overheating. - NEVER run the cable under or through a wall, partition, or through a floor. - NEVER place the splice (the black plastic piece joining the cold lead to the gray cable) inside a wall; it must be fully embedded beneath the floor covering, per installation instructions. - Provide a buffer zone — for example behind a toilet or near a door — to hide excess cable and avoid heating a nonessential area. Cables can also be installed 6" (150 mm) from walls to create this buffer. - Test the cable while it is still on its spool and at two additional stages of installation to verify integrity and protect the warranty. A megohmmeter is required for the insulation resistance test; its use is strongly recommended. - Consult a qualified electrician before ordering DITRA-HEAT cables to select the correct voltage for your installation.

Attention information	Do not use repair kits to connect different heating cables. They are intended only to repair a single DITRA-HEAT-E-HK heating cable. Repairs must only be performed by a qualified electrician, in accordance with the procedure specified for Schluter®-DITRA-HEAT cables, the Canadian Electrical Code, Part I (Canada) or the National Electrical Code (United States), and all applicable local electrical and building codes. Failure to follow the repair procedure and applicable codes may result in personal injury, property damage, or failure of the repair or connection. Never cut the heating cable. The heating cable cannot be shortened or modified to fit the space. Doing so would change the cable resistance and could cause a fire.
